Why a heat pump

Low-carbon heating that replaces your boiler

An air source heat pump heats your radiators and your hot water from one outdoor unit. It takes heat from the outside air instead of burning gas or oil, so it gives several units of heat for each unit of electricity it uses.

Every home is different, so we start by looking at yours: how much heat it loses, which radiators would need upgrading and where a hot water cylinder would go. Then you get one fixed price, with no surprises on the day. We're rated 5 stars on Google by our customers.

What we fit

Heating and hot water,
from one system

A complete air to water system: the outdoor heat pump, a hot water cylinder and the controls, designed around your radiators.

Samsung Gen 7 R290

A monobloc air source heat pump: everything sits in one outdoor unit, with no refrigerant pipes running into the house. It uses R290, a natural refrigerant, and is ErP A+++ rated at 35°C, with a seasonal efficiency (SCOP) of up to 4.84.

Hot water

Hot water cylinder

A heat pump heats a stored cylinder of hot water. If you have a combi boiler now, we'll find the best place for a cylinder and include it in your price.

Radiators

Radiators and controls

Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures, so some rooms may need a larger radiator. We check every room and set up the controls so your home stays warm for less.

Questions

Heat pump questions answered

How does an air source heat pump work?

It takes heat from the outside air, even on cold days, and concentrates it to heat your radiators and a hot water cylinder. Because it moves heat rather than burning fuel, a good system gives several units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses.

Will a heat pump work with my radiators?

Often, yes. Heat pumps are most efficient at lower flow temperatures, so some rooms may need a larger radiator. The Samsung Gen 7 we fit can reach a 75°C flow temperature, which helps it work with many existing radiator systems. We check room by room before giving you a price.

Do I need a hot water cylinder?

Yes. A heat pump heats a stored cylinder of hot water rather than heating water on demand like a combi boiler. If you have a combi now, the price includes finding space for a cylinder, which is something we look at during your quote.

Are there grants for heat pumps?

The government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 towards an air source heat pump, but only when it is fitted by an MCS-certified installer. Reform Heating is not MCS certified at the moment, so our heat pump installs don’t qualify for the grant. We give you one fixed price for your home instead. The scheme rules are on GOV.UK.

Is a heat pump noisy?

Modern units are quiet. The 5kW Samsung Gen 7 has a sound power level of 55 dB(A), and we position the outdoor unit to keep it away from bedrooms and your neighbours’ windows where we can.

How much does a heat pump cost?

It depends on your home’s heat loss, the size of heat pump you need, whether you need a new cylinder and whether any radiators need upgrading. We don’t have an online price for heat pumps yet, so contact us and we’ll give you a fixed price for your home.
